Hamburger Stroganoff

  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 2-3 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper, or to taste
  • 2 cans cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup (8 oz) sour cream
  • 1 lb. Country Pasta, cooked and drained


  1. Saute onion and garlic in butter, over medium heat.
  2. Add meat and brown.
  3. Drain all but about 2 Tbsp of grease.
  4. Add flour, salt and pepper, stir, and cook for approximately 5 minutes.
  5. Add soups, stir and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  6. Stir in sour cream.
  7. Heat through, sprinkle with parsley (optional), and serve over hot Country Pasta.

    This is a nice basic recipe, however really tasty stroganoff requires lots of sauteed mushrooms and preferably cream of mushroom soup rather than chicken soup. A dash of Paprika before serving is also a plus.

    Hi Sally, Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, we find that cooking is much more art than science and love when people take recipes and make them unique to their own family’s preferences. This was a favorite recipe submitted by a wonderful customer, but maybe you would enjoy our Country Pasta Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff. It includes mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup like you prefer. I know we like to add a little extra kick of garlic on our end.
